In the era of mid-1950’s to early 1960’s, it was music of The Girl Groups (The Ronettes, The Shangri-Las, The Crystals, etc.) that defined the sound of popular music. It was the beginning of Second Wave feminism and girl groups gave voice to the challenges and dreams of women; made international superstars out of many – particularly women of color – and united America during the Jim Crow and desegregation years.
The show is a full production including a House Band, a rotating cast of lead singers, horn section, string quartet, auxiliary percussion and three-part harmony. From the musicians and singers, to the sound engineering, videography and support technicians, every single aspect of the show is run by women Now in its 5th year, She's A Rebel is more than a "powerhouse girl-group tribute." It's a way to celebrate and honor the past while engaging in the present; to support an integrated, cooperative community of women whose talents make us Music City. And have a lot of fun doing it!
